Cold laser

A safe, non-invasive and painless form of treatment for debilitating foot and ankle symptoms, cold laser assists those of our clients in Brantford, Hamilton and beyond who suffer from tendonitis, tension myalgia, degenerative arthritis and many other ailments. Also referred to as low level laser therapy (LLLT), cold laser treatments are popular among elite athletes, and have been used successfully throughout Europe for over 35 years. Active Foot Care Clinic and Orthotic Centre’s cold laser therapy does not generate any perceivable heat, and does not produce any long-term adverse side effects. Even though cold laser therapy is extremely beneficial for the treatment of a diverse range of ankle and foot problems, it is not considered a cure-all, and each of our patients will respond differently. Cold laser therapy’s many benefits include:

  • Increased ATP & protein synthesis resulting in an increase in growth factor response within tissues & cells
  • Stimulation of nerve function
  • Increased levels of lymphocyte activity strengthens immune system response
  • Faster tissue repair & wound healing
  • Increase in tissue strength
  • Promotion of oxygenation & cellular detoxification
  • Activation enzymes in the targeted cells
  • Endorphin release causes reduction in pain
  • Reduction in swelling, inflammation & nerve pain

Shockwave
Also known as extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), shockwave is a highly effective form of treatment for people whose bodies cannot heal itself on its own. Active Foot Care Clinic and Orthotic Centre’s shockwave treatments help to eliminate ankle or foot problems, restore full mobility, and improve quality of life. After only one or two shockwave treatments, most of our Brantford, Port Dover, Grimsby, Ancaster, Cambridge, Paris, Dundas, Simcoe, Milton, Cayuga, Flamborough, Jarvis, Burlington, Woodstock, Caledonia, Oakville, Hamilton and Stoney Creek patients begin to experience the following beneficial effects:

  • Enhanced blood circulation

Our non-surgical shockwave therapy treatments are affordable, comfortable and easy to apply, have no adverse side effects, and are covered by most insurance companies

Ultrasound therapy
Ultrasound is a form of acoustic energy which, when delivered to the human body’s inflamed areas via an ultrasound machine, drastically reduces pain and provides much needed relief. When used in conjunction with traditional methods, regular treatments of ultrasound therapy from Active Foot Care Clinic and Orthotic Centre’s Brantford or Hamilton location can help prevent ankle or foot problems from recurring. This combination allows for overall better treatment, and provides fast pain relief and healing. Some of the benefits of our ultrasound therapy include:

  • Blood flow stimulation
  • Promotes normal function of the affected area
  • Increased relaxation of the ligaments and muscles
  • Reduction of muscle spasms and swelling
  • Oxygen and nutrient delivery to tissues
  • Fibrous and scar tissue softening

Laser for nail fungus

Toe nail fungus is an unsightly infection that causes toe nails to distort, crumble, discolour, thicken, appear dull, separate from the nail bed and emit a foul odour. Toe nail fungus (or onychomycosis) can be extremely painful for our clients from Brantford, Hamilton and surrounding cities, which is why our chiropodists / foot care specialists offer laser for nail fungus services. Active Foot Care Clinic and Orthotic Centre’s laser for nail fungus is the latest alternative technology to effectively provide safe treatment for the symptoms of toe nail fungus, with no negative side affects. Our Health Canada approved laser (YAG 1064nm) is ideal for the treatment of toe nail fungus, as well as other ankle or foot problems such as scars and warts. For difficult to treat toe nail fungus, we may also prescribe a topical or oral anti-fungal medication. Laser for nail fungus treatments last about one minute per nail. We recommend a total of three treatments spaced roughly one month apart, though it may take longer for any significant improvements to become apparent. The laser for nail fungus treatments that we offer in Brantford and Hamilton chiropody practices do not require anaesthetic or needles, and causes no discomfort to our patients.
